TBD. In development: Virtual Economy pt2 + story + more game mechanics
Why this solution?
Kumite has turned into a simple game but it is not yet cohesive, and has low numbers of returning players. Some players would stick around, but it was obvious many improvement could be made to use game concepts that make a game fun so that people continue playing.
I took a deep dive into video games, why people play games and return, and the value of virtual economies to help solve some of these problems.
My conclusion for next steps
The game requires a meta game that ties the core activities together so players are motivated to continue in the core activities. For example, in World of Warcraft, slashing monsters in a dungeon on repeat is not interesting enough. So Blizzard has made an entire world, virtual economy, and skill leveling system to make the core activity evolve as the player evolves.
The next addition to Kumite is to think of the experience more of a game.

The next solutions are more extensive
Create a meta game that ties all the core activities together and is story driven.
Earn resources to use and trade so they can be successful at the overall meta game
The core activities produce these goods
Training:
players train to earn resources to use and trade so they can play the overall meta game that ties the entire game together.
Add more training modes so their experience changes day to day
Special events: provide a mode that can be played anytime as long as they have enough resources. Think Jetpack Joyride, where you do pushups to move your character.
Players can apply power ups and their abilities to get advantages in the game.
The game map changes so their experience changes game to game
The main event is an infrequent event, that will affect the overall social game story and produce more rewards so players can
be successful at the overall meta game
gain abilities and items that change their content experience the next time they play
